Kurawanka are porcelain utensils made in the Edo period that were used by common people for everyday use. It was given this name because it was used on the "Kurawanka boats" that sold prepared foods on board the Yodo River during the Edo period. "Kurawanka" is a dialect word meaning "don't you want to eat?" It is characterized by its thickness and low center of gravity, so that it does not easily tip over even on a rocking boat. This vessel is hand-painted, so the picture and shape of each piece is slightly different. It is also the charm of antiques that you can enjoy the subtle differences between handmade and hand-painted.
